New Brochures!
The new brochures are here! After weeks of revising, they have finally arrived. These brochures contain new images and information about La Posada, The Plaza, The Castaneda, The Legal Tender, The Turquoise Room, and the Affeldt Mion Museum
New App for Guests!
In mid-December, we activated a new guest messaging system, which will make communications a breeze. The new app includes information about your reservation and hotel policies, plus a link to make reservations for the Turquoise Room and a “Things To Do” page highlighting nearby attractions. Need something for your room? Simply send a message through the app, just like sending a text message.

This year’s annual staff Holiday party was bigger than ever, with seventy crew members. We love gathering over lunch to show our gratitude for the hard work they put in every day of the year to make La Posada and the Turquoise Room a success.
Turquoise Room
Chef Jesus served up a truly special—and beautiful—Christmas appetizer: Chile en Nogada. This traditional Mexican dish consists of a roasted Poblano chile stuffed with ground lamb, apples, plantains, and almonds. Topped with a creamy sauce, crumbled feta cheese, and pomegranate gems.
There was also a special holiday drink, the Candy Cane Espresso Martini!
Kitchen Upgrades
The kitchen upgrades we mentioned in past newsletters are well underway! In addition to the planned replacement of the main cooking line—including new equipment—we have also upgraded the ramp connecting the kitchen to the dining room to match the original quarry tile, created a new bar service area, and will be replacing the entire Turquoise Room mechanical system to keep everyone warm and cozy this winter. We’re hoping to have this complete by the end of January!
New Placemats Underway!
If you’ve been to Turquoise Room lately, you may have noticed a lot of wear on our unique placemats. While they’ve delighted guests for years, it’s time for something new.
Good news! We are working with printers to take eight of artist Doug Johnson’s notecard designs and turn them into placemats. Stay tuned for more!
Affeldt Mion Museum
Starting in January, the museum located in the 1930 museum behind the hotel will move to winter hours, 9 am – 5 pm, Tuesday – Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday. However, we sometimes need to close the museum due to staffing issues, so please check before coming!
Auxilliary Space at the VFW Buliding
We recently bought the 1940s VFW building across from La Posada. When we shifted the original south side Arcade at Affeldt Mion from a meeting/storage space to a gallery featuring the work of artist John Suttman, it became clear we needed more storage. The former VFW building perfectly fits the bill. This space will be used for La Posada storage and Trading Post back stock, freeing up room in our current archive building for legal documents, historic/antique furniture, plus documents for all the properties, and art. Stay tuned for more!
A Note From Allan
Rent has become so expensive, and I’ve been worrying about the cost of living for our staff. When we met – Allan, Tina and Dan – we were all living in a trailer park at U.C. Irvine (Dan’s trailer is pictured below). The very low rent – $100/month/space – allowed us to pursue our intellectual and artistic interests. Yes, we moved from RVs into La Posada, but that is another story.
Anyway, we have a couple of hookups at La Posada, and are putting a couple in at Lamy, and I was thinking: maybe we could make a small trailer park for guests with RVs, and I could rent spaces very cheap to staff.
I know lots of folks have RVs or mobile homes or houseboats that they don’t use, so if you have any of these you might donate or trade or sell for an attractive price please let Allan know: allan.affeldt@gmail.com. Happy Holidays!
